I have never seen an immature one before, but that's got to be an immature rose breasted grosbeak. Nice find Dan! I have only seen one of these in my backyard before and it was in early spring. I do see them when i'm out in the country though.

Well I found a new setting on my camera that delivers better quality. Try turning on the RAW format. It makes huge files but much better quality. Check out the difference it made on this bird taken at the same location from the same distance.

When you take a picture, your camera compresses, and basically "develops" your photo in whatever way it wants too. When you shoot in raw format, the camera does absolutely nothing to the photo, allowing you to work on the photo in Photoshop or your "digital darkroom" more precise, and with more options.

This should make it easier to get an 8x10 printed at the developers then. I've got so many pictures that just didn't quite make the quality requirements for printing that large. I now have a reason to go out and rephoto stuff
