Re: Cyanamid – Donated toxic waste
I can’t understand how any member of the public could fall for this. A company saves tonnes of money by improperly disposing of tonnes of toxic waste on its own property. Then when they are finished with the site, instead of taking the proper route and cleaning up the mess that should have never been aloud to be made in the first place, they simply donate the land to the City for $1.
How niave is the public to condone such a practice. Do they really think the union is kicking up a stink because of some labor dispute elsewhere, and why are the seniors so concerned. My guess is that the seniors and union workers know what that ground really holds. They were paid to put it there. We are sending a message that it is OK to pollute if you give us something for free in return!
When we are talking about serious toxins with the potential to harm people as they did to neighboring properties for years, why would we accept a study by the company that doesn’t want to pay to clean the site up? We allowed that mess to operate for decades, we realized how wrong we were and then we allow them to shrug it off if they donate it so we can have something we want just to save money. That makes us no better then Cyanamid.
Go ahead and build an arena right in the middle of Love Canal. I’ll lick the ice with Wayne Thompson. If I was the Mayor during the era that Cyanamid was breeding cancer patients and was involved in the deal that accepted the land as is, I’d be willing to use my own tongue to cover my tracks too!
