Not sure if anyone has been down to the waters edge around the Maid of the Mist and upriver towards the Horseshoe Falls. If you get a chance have a look at the spent firework casings and fuses all over the place by the thousands. Must be a horrendous amount of explosive residue ending up back in the water as a result. Not to mention the noise created by the event itself. We have an endangered species in the Peregrine Falcon down there, not to mention Beavers and some of the best multi species fishing anywhere on the Lower Niagara River. Whats more important, the preservation of such wildlife or Fireworks that really are not worth a 5 minute drive to view in the first place? I'll post some pictures of the garbage left behind down there next week. They should (bare minimum) have to clean up after themselves if they are going to continue.

This is a topic I've always felt alone on. The smoke that comes off fireworks smells bad. It seems to have a high sulfur content. I feel sorry for the poor sap who decides to take on this one because he won't get the backing from the general public.
Why fireworks are so loved by all I don't understand. A quick flash of light and several hundred dollars have been spent to pollute. The cleanup I think is a good start but personally..... and I'm stretching out my neck here, I've always felt they are an archaic tradition that is due to be banned.

I too used to spend alot of time fishing down there, it was once one of my favorite smallie fishing areas, and also one of my fav steelie fishing spots as well, I spent many years fishing down there starting at about 15 years old, although I haven't fished down there in a few years now. I have talked about this with one of my very good fishing buddies as well regarding the "leftovers" from the fireworks display, the last time we where down there fishing, we noticed all those little white plastic ball parts from the mortors where strewn all down the embankment and we both thought at the time that it should be up to the "Park's" to clean all that up
